Not enough emergency doctors on public holidays due to billing dispute

An acute shortage of emergency doctors is expected in Bavaria during the holidays. The background is a billing dispute between the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Bayern (KBV) and the health insurance companies due to the lack of bureaucratic evidence of the emergency medical operations at the central billing office (ZASZ).

Will billing disputes on public holidays become a health risk for patients in Bavaria? At ZAST, rescue missions are reported as incorrect missions by the emergency services, in which the patient is not transported to a hospital because his condition has improved. The health insurance companies therefore did not transmit any remuneration to the KVB. The Association of Bavarian Emergency Physicians (AGBN) puts the deficit that arises due to the lack of evidence at around 12 million euros.

Since November 15, the emergency medical care provided in Bavaria has no longer been remunerated and the payment has been postponed to a date that has not yet been fixed, since the KVB feels compelled to “start the mission from November 15, 2012 with the list of those remunerated by ZAST Payments can be matched and a payout can only be made once it has been established that the assignments have been recognized, ”quotes the AGBN in a press release. In a letter to Prime Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU), the Executive Board of ABGN asked for understanding on behalf of its members "that we consider it unreasonable if the medical colleagues, on whose willingness the population relies day and night, ..., can no longer be sure that when and how much the work will be remunerated. "

For this reason, numerous emergency doctors will not be on duty between Christmas and New Year's. Bavaria's emergency physicians are calling for "a quick and acceptable solution in terms of maintaining emergency medical care". There are around 4,500 emergency doctors and 220 emergency doctor locations in Bavaria. (sb)
